Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups frozen tater tots
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. Drain off any excess grease.
Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until heated through.
Pour the beef mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Arrange the frozen tater tots evenly over the beef mixture.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the tater tots.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and the casserole is bubbly.
Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture.
If you don’t have cream of mushroom soup, cream of celery soup works well too.
This casserole is freezer-friendly. Assemble it, cover tightly, and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake as directed, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time if needed.
