A simple and comforting ground beef casserole topped with crispy tater tots and melted cheddar cheese. This easy dish is perfect for weeknight family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 bag (16 ounces) frozen tater tots
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef and chopped onion over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Pour the beef mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Arrange the frozen tater tots evenly over the beef mixture.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the tater tots.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a make-ahead option, assemble the casserole but do not bake. Cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Add an extra 5-10 minutes to the baking time if baking from chilled.
  • You can add a layer of canned green beans or corn over the beef mixture before adding the tater tots for extra vegetables.
  • This casserole freezes well. Let it cool completely, then wrap tightly and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake as directed.
