Easy Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken

Make tender, shreddable BBQ chicken in your slow cooker. This simple recipe is perfect for weeknight dinners, sandwiches, and potlucks.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place chicken in the slow cooker.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together BBQ sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until chicken is cooked through and tender.
  5. Remove chicken from the slow cooker and shred with two forks.
  6. Return shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir to coat with the sauce.
  7. Serve hot on buns for sandwiches or as a main dish.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a sliced onion to the slow cooker with the chicken.
  • Adjust the amount of brown sugar to control the sweetness.
