Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 1012 medium apples)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and salt in a 6-quart slow cooker.
  2. Stir to coat the apples evenly.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-6 hours, until the apples are very tender.
  4. Carefully transfer the cooked apples and liquid to a blender or food processor.
  5. Blend until smooth. Alternatively, use an immersion blender directly in the slow cooker.
  6. For a thicker consistency, remove the lid and cook on high for another 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally, until thickened to your liking.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving or jarring.

Notes

  • For best results, use a mix of apple varieties like Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala, or McIntosh.
  • This apple butter can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
  • For longer storage, follow proper canning procedures.
  • Serve on toast, pancakes, waffles, or as a spread for pork or chicken.
