You will make rich, fudgy chocolate brownies with a creamy peanut butter swirl. This recipe delivers an indulgent, gooey dessert that is easy to prepare and always satisfies a sweet tooth.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (120g) creamy peanut butter (for swirl)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for swirl)
  • 1 large egg (for swirl)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (for swirl)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter and 1 cup of sugar until combined.
  3. Whisk in the 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
  4. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing only until just combined. Do not overmix; a few streaks of flour are fine.
  6. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  7. In another small bowl, prepare the peanut butter swirl mixture: beat the 1/2 cup peanut butter, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 egg, and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the brownie batter.
  9. Use a knife or a skewer to gently swirl the peanut butter mixture into the chocolate batter to create a marbled effect. Do not over-swirl; you want distinct ribbons of peanut butter.
  10. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. The edges should look set, and a toothpick inserted near the center should come out with moist crumbs attached, not wet batter.
  11. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting them out using the parchment paper overhang and cutting them into squares.

Notes

  • For the fudgiest texture, avoid overbaking. The center should remain slightly gooey when done.
  • Use creamy peanut butter for the best swirl consistency. Natural, oily peanut butter may separate during baking.
  • You can use a boxed brownie mix for convenience; simply follow the package directions for the chocolate base, then top with the homemade peanut butter swirl mixture before baking.
