Discover how to make incredibly soft and gooey Nutella cookies with a rich hazelnut chocolate flavor. These easy cookies are perfect for holiday baking and sharing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • 1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the Nutella until streaks of chocolate appear throughout the dough. Do not overmix.
  6. If using, stir in the chopped hazelnuts.
  7. Cover the dough and chill for at least 1 hour, or until firm enough to scoop. This step is crucial for achieving a gooey center.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  9. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between cookies.
  10. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the centers still look soft and slightly underbaked. For an extra gooey center, err on the side of less baking time.
  11. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For an even more intense Nutella flavor, you can place a small dollop of Nutella in the center of each cookie dough ball before baking.
  • These cookies are best enjoyed warm, with their molten centers.
  • Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Consider these cookies as a delightful addition to your meal planning, offering a sweet treat that’s easy to prepare.
