Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter, plus more for brushing
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  3. Add the yogurt and yeast mixture to the flour. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. While the dough rises, mix melted butter with minced garlic.
  7. Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces.
  8. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece into a thin oval shape.
  9. Heat a dry skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat.
  10. Cook each naan for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown spots appear.
  11. Brush the cooked naan with garlic butter.

Notes

  • For extra soft naan, use full-fat yogurt.
  • Ensure your skillet is hot before adding the dough for the best results.
  • Serve warm with your favorite curry or as a side dish.
