A simple, crowd-pleasing stromboli recipe perfect for beginners. Use store-bought pizza dough for a quick and delicious meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/4 cup chopped bell peppers
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle, about 12×10 inches.
  3. Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border on all sides.
  4. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  5. Arrange the pepperoni, bell peppers, and onion over the cheese.
  6. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
  7. Carefully roll up the dough lengthwise, starting from one of the long sides, like a jelly roll. Pinch the seams to seal.
  8. Tuck the ends under and pinch them closed to prevent filling from leaking out.
  9. Place the stromboli seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  10. Brush the top with the beaten egg wash. Cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and heated through.
  12. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can customize the fillings with your favorite ingredients like cooked sausage, mushrooms, or different cheeses.
  • For a make-ahead option, assemble the stromboli, cover, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
  • This stromboli freezes well. Let it cool completely, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and then foil, and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and reheat in the oven.
