Ingredients
Scale
6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
1/4 cup melted coconut oil or unsalted butter
1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, maple syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the apple mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish.
In a separate medium bowl, combine the rolled oats, whole wheat flour, and chopped nuts (if using).
Pour the melted coconut oil or butter over the oat mixture and stir until well combined.
Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For a gluten-free version, use certified gluten-free oats and almond flour or a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend instead of whole wheat flour.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla yogurt or a drizzle of extra maple syrup.
This crisp is a great option for meal planning, as it can be made ahead and reheated.
