Create ultra-fudgy brownies with a shiny, crackly top using simple pantry ingredients. This one-bowl recipe is perfect for a quick and delicious chocolate treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8×8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until well combined.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder to the bowl. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  8. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting and serving.

Notes

  • For a shinier, crackly top, ensure your sugar is well incorporated and avoid overmixing the batter.
  • Using good quality cocoa powder will enhance the chocolate flavor.
  • For an even richer flavor, you can add a teaspoon of instant espresso powder to the dry ingredients.
  • These brownies are best enjoyed at room temperature.
