You will make this rich, decadent hot fudge pie that tastes like a warm brownie. It is surprisingly easy and delivers a gooey chocolate experience perfect for serving warm with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, flour, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. Gradually whisk in the water until smooth. Add the butter pieces.
  4. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the butter melts and the mixture thickens slightly, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from heat.
  5. In a separate bowl, lightly beat the eggs. Slowly temper the eggs by whisking about 1/2 cup of the hot chocolate mixture into the eggs, then pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan, stirring quickly.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the hot fudge filling into the prepared pie crust.
  8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center still has a slight wobble. This wobble ensures a gooey texture.
  9. Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before serving. This allows the center to set up properly.
  10. Serve the pie warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an indulgent treat.

Notes

  • For a fudgier texture, reduce the baking time by 5 minutes.
  • You can use a store-bought crust to make this recipe even faster.
  • This dessert is best enjoyed the day it is made.
