This is the classic cheese ball recipe you need for your next party. It combines cream cheese, sharp cheddar, and a crunchy pecan coating for a simple, flavorful appetizer that always pleases a crowd.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans
  • Crackers, pretzels, or vegetable sticks for serving

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix these ingredients until they are fully blended and smooth.
  2. Place the mixture onto a sheet of plastic wrap. Use the wrap to shape the cheese mixture into a ball.
  3. Chill the cheese ball in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until firm enough to handle. This step is important for make-ahead preparation.
  4. Spread the finely chopped pecans onto a shallow plate.
  5. Remove the chilled cheese ball from the plastic wrap. Roll the cheese ball in the chopped pecans, pressing gently so the nuts adhere to the entire surface.
  6. Return the finished cheese ball to the refrigerator until you are ready to serve.
  7. Serve your classic appetizer with your favorite crackers or fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • You can prepare this cheese ball up to two days ahead of time. Keep it tightly wrapped in plastic wrap in the refrigerator until serving time.
  • For a different flavor, substitute the pecans with chopped walnuts or crispy bacon bits.
  • If you want a tangier flavor, use half sharp cheddar and half Monterey Jack cheese.
