Make the best chocolate chip cookie bars with this simple, one-pan recipe. These bars are incredibly chewy, loaded with chocolate, and perfect for parties or bake sales.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand.
  6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared 9×13 inch pan.
  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the edges are set and lightly golden brown. The center should still look slightly soft for maximum chewiness.
  8. Let the cookie bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting them out using the parchment overhang.
  9. Once cool, cut into squares.

Notes

  • For extra gooey dessert bars, press half the chocolate chips into the dough, then sprinkle the remaining half over the top before baking.
  • If you want a fudgy dessert bar texture, slightly underbake them by about 2-3 minutes.
  • These simple pan cookies freeze well once cut. Place parchment paper between layers before freezing.
