Ingredients
Scale
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup long grain white rice, uncooked
1 3/4 cups chicken broth or water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
Add the uncooked rice to the saucepan and stir constantly for 1 to 2 minutes to lightly toast the grains.
Pour in the chicken broth or water, and add the salt and pepper. Stir once.
Bring the liquid to a boil. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for an additional 10 minutes.
Remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, substitute half the water with beef consomme.
You can use Jasmine rice for a slightly different texture.
If you are making a large batch, use a wider pan to allow the rice to cook in a single layer.
