Make this zesty, creamy cilantro lime sauce in five minutes. It is a versatile green sauce perfect for tacos, grilled chicken, or as a dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro, packed
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise or Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeds removed (optional, for spice)
  • 2 tablespoons water (or more, for thinning)

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients. You will need a food processor or blender for this quick sauce recipe.
  2. Place the fresh cilantro, mayonnaise or Greek yogurt, lime juice, garlic, salt, pepper, and optional jalapeño into your blender or food processor.
  3. Blend the ingredients until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape down the sides as needed.
  4. Add water, one tablespoon at a time, while blending until you reach your desired sauce consistency. For a thinner taco sauce, add more water.
  5. Taste the sauce and adjust salt or lime juice if necessary.
  6. Serve this versatile green sauce immediately, or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, substitute all the mayonnaise with plain Greek yogurt.
  • If you skip the jalapeño, this sauce is still packed with flavor from the lime and garlic.
  • This homemade cilantro lime sauce keeps well in the refrigerator for up to five days.
