Make the best homemade candied pecans right on your stovetop in just 10 minutes. These sweet, crunchy pecans coated in cinnamon and brown sugar are much better than store-bought versions and are perfect for snacking or topping salads.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Set aside.
  2. In a medium non-stick skillet, combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir these dry ingredients together.
  3. Add the water and butter to the skillet. Place the skillet over medium heat.
  4. Stir the mixture constantly until the sugar dissolves and begins to bubble, about 2 minutes. The mixture will look like a thin syrup.
  5. Add the pecan halves to the skillet. Stir quickly and continuously to coat every pecan evenly with the glaze. This step requires constant movement to prevent burning and clumping.
  6. Continue stirring for 3 to 5 minutes until the liquid evaporates and the sugar mixture crystallizes, coating the pecans with a dry, sugary layer. You want them to look matte and slightly crunchy.
  7. Immediately remove the skillet from the heat. Pour the coated pecans onto your prepared baking sheet.
  8. Spread the pecans into a single layer quickly. Let them cool completely, about 10 minutes.
  9. Once cool, break apart any clusters. Store your crunchy sweet pecans in an airtight container.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, spread the pecans on the parchment paper and let them dry for 30 minutes after the initial cooling period before storing.
  • You can substitute pecans with walnuts or almonds if you wish to make quick glazed nuts instead.
  • These make excellent edible gifts nuts, especially around the holidays.
