Make this rich, creamy, and decadent boozy hot chocolate. This recipe combines bourbon and Irish cream for a warm, comforting adult beverage perfect for cold nights or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 ounces good quality dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1.5 ounces bourbon
  • 1 ounce Baileys Irish Cream
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the milk, heavy cream, chopped dark chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk the mixture constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and hot. Do not let it boil.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
  4. Stir in the bourbon and Baileys Irish Cream until fully combined.
  5. Pour the hot chocolate into your favorite mugs.
  6. Top each serving with whipped cream and a sprinkle of chocolate shavings, if you wish. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality dark chocolate (60-70% cacao).
  • You can substitute the bourbon with dark rum or peppermint schnapps for a different flavor profile.
  • To create a hot chocolate bar, set out toppings like marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, and different liqueurs.
